Wind energy
Even though wind energy has been available for years,
this type of energy is still being underutilized. While it is hard to
pinpoint one exact reason, some of the contributing factors to the underutilization
include:
• Cost – Even though wind energy could
end up being a cheaper alternative for both consumers and power companies,
some of the power companies are hesitant to take on the huge initial
costs required to develop wind energy. In order to collect wind energy,
the power companies would need to build hundreds or thousands of gigantic
wind turbines. They also would need to purchase the land on which these
turbines would stand. Some power companies fear that the cost of doing
this would be too significant and could damage the long-term future
of the company.
• Logistics – Logistically speaking, building
and installing thousands of wind turbines from coast to coast is not
an easy thing to do. This process would take years of careful planning.
Another consideration would be how well can the energy being collected
be moved to the homes that need it.
• Outcry – Sure there are a few groups
here and there who are calling for the development of wind energy, but
the simple truth is there has not been enough pressure put on the power
companies to truly develop this resource. Until a lot of people begin
to do things like protest and until the federal government becomes very
involved, it is likely that wind energy will not be truly developed.
