Energy star
Perhaps you have heard people talk about buying appliances
with the Energy Star label and you have been confused about exactly
what the Energy Star label is. The following few paragraphs will explain
this:
• Government-sponsored – The Energy Star program is a government-sponsored
program that encourages appliance manufacturers to create and manufacture
more energy efficient devices. There has been evidence in recent years
that the results are matching the efforts made to promote this program.
For example, in 2007 alone, Americans saved enough energy to avoid greenhouse
gas emissions equivalent to those from 27 million cars, while also saving
$27 million in utility bills.
• Where to find the label – The Energy
Star label is proudly and prominently affixed to any appliance that
is deemed worthy to display it. This label means that the appliance
meets federal energy efficient standards. Even if an appliance is more
efficient than an older model, this alone is not enough. It must meet
the federal standards or it cannot be an Energy Star appliance.
• Save on taxes – In addition to saving
money on your utility bills, those who own Energy Star appliances are
also able to save a good deal of money on some of the taxes they might
pay. Many states as well as the federal government offer tax rebates
and credits to those people who have purchased certain kinds of Energy
Star appliances.
Thanks to the fact that Energy Star appliances are able to decrease
utility bills, decreases taxes and help save the earth’s limited
supply of energy, these appliances have become progressively more and
more prevalent in homes.
